Rubondo Island National Park

Rubondo Island National Park is located on Rubondo Island in the southwest corner of Lake Victoria in northwest Tanzania, about 150 km west of Mwanza. It encompasses the main island plus surrounding waters and smaller islets, with roughly half the park area made up of water. Originally designated a game reserve in 1965 and later gazetted as a national park, Rubondo is unique as one of Tanzania’s island parks. It features dense equatorial forest, papyrus wetlands, rocky shores, and sandy beaches. The park offers distinctive wildlife experiences, including chimpanzee trekking, birdwatching (with hundreds of resident and migratory species), forest and woodland wildlife like elephants and giraffes, and freshwater activities including fishing and boating on Lake Victoria.activities,

I recommend the chimpanzee trekking. I did the chimpanzee trekking with the support of the rangers and the guide. Also, I did the nature walking, and I enjoyed the sounds of the hippos very much as I sighted them during the evening when they came out of the water for grazing, and I also saw the crocodiles. I highly recommend Rubondo Island National Park and the overnight at Rubondo Cottages. The Lake Victoria shores are so amazing.
