Location

On the northwestern border of the Masai Mara National Reserve, the 74,000-acre (28,000-hectare) Mara North Conservancy is a beautiful private wilderness area and a vital part of the greater Masai Mara ecosystem. It enjoys a stellar reputation for its abundant wildlife, quintessential East African landscapes of rolling savannah, acacia trees, and riverine forest, and for its pioneering commitment to community conservation.

Established in 2009, Mara North is a partnership between 12 tourism providers and over 750 Masai landowners, who share a long-term commitment to the protection of the environment, wildlife, and local communities. The MNC strongly believes in low-density, low-impact, high-end tourism and in minimizing environmental impacts. The conservancy is accessed exclusively by the 12 member camps, whose guests are assured of a unique and truly privileged safari experience.

Mara North is home to several prides of lions and large numbers of elephants and offers excellent opportunities to view cheetahs and leopards in the wild. A wide variety of adventurous safari activities are permitted, including day and night game drives, horse safaris, and scenic guided bush walks. Guests are usually also free to enjoy dinners, lunches, breakfasts, and sundowner drinks in a variety of beautiful bush locations.

There are several scheduled daily flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Mara North Airstrip, and the flight takes one hour or less, followed by a scenic 45-minute game drive to the camp. Private light aircraft or helicopter charters are also available.

“Our family of four—me,usband, 27-year-old son,, and 24-year-old daughter—loved Dik Dik House. We were there for four nights. We really enjoyed the privacy of having our own bush house. It was very comfortable, the service was outstanding (Leonard and Robert!!), the food was five-star gourmet, and whatever we needed/wanted happened. We had zebras, elephants, gazelles, and baboons in our backyard. There is a fun tower (like a treehouse) right outside the house for viewing. We came home one day from a fabulous game drive and found monkeys staring into our house at the back windows—so fun!! Diana and Sasha were our drivers. They were interesting, informative, flexible, and fun to be with. The bush sundowners, breakfasts, and “bitings” were also amazing. We saw lots of animals. All of the Big Five. Sasha, sis, I’m still not sure how you found the leopard. We can’t say enough about our days at Dik Dik House, and we loved having the privacy of our own home in the bush.”

“Our family of four (children ages 13 and 15) had an absolutely amazing stay at Dik Dik House. From the moment we arrived, the whole team made us feel right at home. The house is beautiful and cozy—a spacious master, a comfy living room with a fireplace, and indoor and outdoor dining areas. The deck out back overlooks a path leading to a watering hole, so we were able to watch monkeys, baboons, zebras, giraffes, and even buffalo wander by throughout the day.

Our chef, Sam, was amazing; every meal was fresh and delicious. Raydon, the property manager, went above and beyond to make sure everything ran perfectly. He organized a visit to a local school where we helped plant trees and celebrate with the students. It was an unforgettable and heartwarming experience. He also organized a volleyball game for our family with the staff—so much fun!

A huge highlight was spending time with James, our private driver and guide. Not only did he teach us about the animals, but he also shared so much of the Maasai culture. Visiting a Maasai village and the local market were very special experiences where we learned about the Maasai way of life.

James and Kileyah, our house staff, were so kind, attentive, and welcoming. Every detail was taken care of, from morning coffee to evening fires.

We truly can’t recommend Dik Dik House enough. It’s the perfect mix of comfort, adventure, and authentic connection to the incredible land and people of the Mara. We’re leaving with full hearts and memories that will last a lifetime. We hope to be able to come back and visit in the future!”
